Myth Debunked: Solar is inaccessible.

A popular solar energy myth is that it’s inaccessible. This myth may stem from the price point, homeownership status, or the amount of space needed for panels. However,  the truth is the complete contrary.

In fact, solar energy is now more accessible than ever before. Community solar projects are on the rise with businesses and homeowners taking advantage of them. There are also some excellent examples of schools using solar energy.

Solar-generated electricity is also a cost-effective solution to the energy problems facing our world today. Powering your home with solar now costs less than powering it with fossil fuels. That means that the economics of solar energy are more favorable than the economics of non-renewable energy- what utility companies use and are currently charging you for.

Another reason why solar is extremely accessible is its supply. When compared to fossil fuels or other forms of renewable energy, solar stands far ahead of the rest. “On earth, we have the ability to generate 89 Petawatts of solar energy. This makes solar energy the most abundant source of power in the world.” - trvst

Just because someone may be able to afford solar and tap into it’s limited supply, they still may feel that it’s out of reach. Solar panels do require a decent amount of space. Compared to wind or hydroelectric energy, the space needed is relatively small. However, space is needed.

Luckily, solar panels are designed to fit on top of your roof so that you don’t have to worry about creating space for them to fit. Another advantage of solar panels on your roof is that they will have less shade blocking their sun light to generate power.
