Small-scale solar.

Small-scale solar.

About 30% of all solar energy in the US is generated by small-scale solar systems. So what are small-scale systems?

Small-scale solar systems are systems with less than 1 megawatt (MW) of capacity. Average residential systems in the US are about 5kW (0.005MW). That means most of the systems you’ve seen on people’s homes are small-scale systems.

Even though they’re small, they make a huge impact. These small-scale systems generated  49,030 GWh in 2021 and are estimated to provide 50,301 GWh during 2022.

How big are these panels generating so much energy? Standard residential solar panels are around 5.5 feet long and a little over 3 feet wide - this may vary from brand to brand. Their size makes them ideal for roof mounts while maximizing the amount of energy produced.

What are the benefits of installing a small-scale solar system? People with small-scale solar systems are less dependent on the grid, save more on their monthly expenses, and avoid the changing price of gas.
