What we do when… your system generates more power than you use.

Our team of experts aims to get you a 100% electricity offset from your system, minimum. That means that, in one year, your system will generate as much power as you typically use within a year. So what happens if you use less power than in other years or your system gets more sun than predicted? Let’s talk about it!

You have a couple of options for when your system is overproducing.

  1. Sell that power back to the grid. *availability depends on your utility company
  2. Store that power in a battery.

If your utility has a Net Energy Metering (NEM) program, we strongly recommend that you apply. As your system receives sunlight, it will produce enough electricity to power your home and a surplus to send back to the grid. When the sun goes down, you will use electricity from the grid to power your appliances. A NEM program allows you to receive credits from your utility for the electricity you’re supplying them. You can then use those credits towards the electricity you use when your system isn’t producing.

If you choose to install a battery with your system. The extra power generated will be stored in the battery for you to use when your panels aren’t producing electricity. Even if you take the battery route, we recommend applying for NEM because your system may generate more surplus electricity than your battery can store.
